My plan for my project is to
relearn Portuguese as a language. Within the month I will be using a variety of
different medias to regain my Portuguese fluency. There are many ways in which
my senior project meets the ideals of the philosophy statement. First, I have
an intense love for languages. I have attended the Governor’s Honors Program
for Spanish, taken AP and Post AP Spanish classes, and worked in Guatemala. So
now, I would love to take my love for languages and pursue Portuguese for my
senior project. I lived in Brazil for 5 years as a child and spoke Portuguese
better than I spoke English. However, over the years I have lost much of my
fluency. As Lovett does not offer Portuguese, the senior project would be the
ideal time for me to regain some of my fluency. Through teachers like SeƱora
Mitchell, I have learned how to approach learning not just how to speak a
language but understanding the intricacies. Lovett’s senior project values are
ones of intellectual curiosity and love of learning. I love learning new
languages and strive to be completely tri-lingual, a skill that I would take
with me throughout my life and career. This is a passion of mine, and something
I have wanted to do for a long time – the senior project is the perfect
opportunity.
